According to the media reports, United Nation Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) had complied a report that revealed shocking statistics regarding murder crimes.
It is reported that 437,000 people across the world were murdered in 2012, with the highest rates being reported in the Americas and Africa, and the lowest in Europe, Asia and Oceania.
Stephane Dujarric, UN spokesperson told media that:
“Men made up almost eight out of every 10 homicide victims, while women accounted for the vast majority of domestic violence fatalities.”
He further added that:
“The report also indicates that 95 per cent of the perpetrators are men and that over half of all homicide victims are under the age of 30.”
Whereas, over half of all homicide victims were under 30 years of age, with children under the age of 15 accounting for just over eight percent of all homicides.
The director for policy analysis and public affairs at UNODC, Jean-Luc Lemahieu said that:
“There is an urgent need to understand how violent crime is plaguing countries around the world, particularly affecting young men and women.”
While almost 15 per cent of all homicides stem from domestic violence, more than two thirds of domestic violence fatalities are women, the study showed.
“Home can be the most dangerous place for a woman,”
Lemahieu further added that:
“It is particularly heart-breaking when those who should be protecting their loved ones are the very people responsible for their murder.”
Whereas, over half of all homicide victims were under 30 years of age, with children under the age of 15 accounting for just over eight percent of all homicides.
