PTA has announced that Pakistani Cellular Companies are allowed to use 3G mobile technology on experimental basis. Mobile companies in Pakistan will be allowed to use the technology just after a few hours of its auction.
In January 2014, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) informed that a three month free trial of 3G technology will be allowed to major mobile operators in Pakistan. This will allow the mobile operators to complete their preparations before the complete adaptation.
Syed Ismail Shah, Chairman PTA told that this will help mobile operators to identify the technical challenges before they could provide 3G technology to the whole country.
People will be able to enjoy live TV streaming, make Skype calls on smartphones and will also be able to browse high speed internet.
Government is expected to earn 1-2 Billion Dollars for a 15-years auction of 3G and 4G licence in Pakistan. A few days ago it was announced by PTA that 3G technology will be available in Pakistan by April 2014.
Chairman of PTA claimed that special efforts are being made to make the process as transparent as possible. He also said that the auction will be carried out in such a way that not only existing mobile operators but new entrants will also be attracted to it.
3G technology in Pakistan is much awaited and it will be a huge step towards benefiting the smartphone users in Pakistan as currently 2G technology is being used by them and its speed is quite low and smartphones cannot be used to their maximum potential.
