A well-known Saudi Mufti and scholar Shaikh Ali Al-Hakmi who is also a member of the Supreme Council of Scholars in Saudi Arabia said that it is not permissible according to Sharia to visit Mars. It is an intentional way of putting yourself to death as the risk factor is quite high and there is no place in Islam for such journey.
Journey to Mars has been a very hot topic and applications have been received from all around the globe for this purpose. 100,000 people have been selected for this purpose and these people include many Saudi citizens as well as people from other Islamic countries.
According to Saudi scholar Allama Al-Hakmi, Mars is very far from earth and it will take 7 months for anyone to reach there. It is quite possible that the journey does not end up well and can cost a person his/her life while it is quite evident from Quran that any action of putting one’s self intentionally to death is not permissible, therefore this journey is not allowed according to Islam as one’s life is not his own property but it is ALLAH’s.
He further said that such journeys should be first tested on animals and if they are successful, and then there is no harm in visiting Mars
It is quite strange that this journey to Mars is very cheap and it is available globally at very easy terms and conditions. Anyone below 40 years of age is eligible and only 38 dollars fare has to be paid to join this journey. The people who are already chosen for this journey are being trained by professional astronauts.
According to sources, 477 Saudi people applied for this journey and only 6 were selected for this trial journey. Saudi scholar seems very spot on about this journey to Mars, as this is only the trial and any little mishap in this journey can put all of the travelers to death.
