PESHAWAR: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has appointed Mullah Fazlullah as their new chief after the death of Hakimullah Mehsud in a US drone attack last Friday.
Fazlullah took shelter in Afghanistan’s Kunnar province after the Pakistani military launched a massive operation in Swat to eliminate the militants from the valley. The Swati Taliban is said to be involved in the murder of Major General (retd) Sanaullah Khan Niazi, General Officer Commanding Swat, in Upper Dir in an IED blast.
Sheikh Khalid Haqqani has been appointed deputy chief. The new chief and his deputy were appointed after the meeting of the militia’s Shura Council.
