BRAZIL: The oil production in Brazil has been halted due to a strike from workers against the auction of an oil site just offshore of Rio de Janeiro.
Union leaders stated that up to 90% of oil workers from the state owned company Petrobras had joined the strike.
42 platforms and several refineries have been reported to have stopped production.
The unions say the Libra oilfield auction will damage national interests by allowing foreign companies to extract oil along with Petrobras and thus share in the proceeds.
Unions have taken legal action in order to halt the sale which is scheduled to take place on Monday.
